14.5.1. Rules of care of the accumulator

GENERAL INFORMATION

If you are going to keep operability of the battery throughout the longest period of time, observe the following rules.

At the idle engine switch off all electric devices in the car.

Disconnection of the battery from a network of the car begin with a negative wire.

Each 15–20 days (through 2 500 km of run) wipe the accumulator from dirt in order to avoid its self-category. With the same purpose it is necessary to eliminate begin to flow electrolit and to isolate from the case a fixing frame.

The accumulator should be reliably fixed on the car. Watch that plugs of wires were strongly fixed on accumulator conclusions, explosion otherwise is possible.

The accumulator can continuously work in a starterny mode no more than 15 seconds; the break between cycles should make not less than 60 seconds.

Periodically check the voltmeter the tension developed by the relay regulator. Indications are necessary for removing directly on accumulator plugs at the working, heated-up engine. The size of tension should keep within a range from 13,8 to 14,5 Volts.

On served accumulators it is desirable to check level and electrolit density through each 3 000 km. Level of electrolit is checked on a special mark in transparent cases or by means of a special glass tube in opaque cases. The electrolit should close the upper edge of plates on 10–15 mm. The density of electrolit is checked by means of the areometer. If the density became lower than value of 1,23 g/cm3 in the winter and 1,19 g/cm3 in the summer, additional charge is necessary.

Even if the generator and a regulator of tension are serviceable, and electrolit level in norm, additional charge by means of the charger is necessary once a month in the winter and each 6 months in other seasons.

It is possible to store the accumulator filled in with electrolit only completely charged, thus the density of electrolit should be checked once a month.

In the discharged accumulator the water percent in electrolit is too high. The electrolit can freeze and put out of action the accumulator case. Do not try to charge the frozen accumulator a big current or to get the car from an extraneous source. Let's to the accumulator thaw, and then try to restore it by a charging a current of small force, and it still can serve.

Crack in bank of the served accumulator – not always the reason of its replacement. Pour out electrolit, dry up and wash out gasoline a crack then process it a file. The sawdust formed at cutting of a crack, mix with epoksidny glue or a shpatlevka. With the received structure carefully cover a crack. After this procedure of electrolits fill in not earlier than in 24 hours.
