4.1.8.6.2. Spark plugs

GENERAL INFORMATION

The spark plug consists of the central electrode, a ceramic insulator with the case and a weight electrode. The spark of ignition which is setting fire to a toplivovozdushny mix, slips between the central electrode and a weight electrode. It is not recommended to deviate the ordered type of candles which, among other things, also is defined by kalilny number.

Kalilnoye points number to degree of maximum permissible thermal loading of one spark plug. At reduction of kalilny number permissible thermal load increases. Heat removal from a candle therefore danger of emergence of kalilny ignition (operation of the engine after ignition switching off decreases) in this case improves. The main lack of candles with high permissible thermal load is that temperature of self-cleaning of a candle also high. In this case the working part of a candle becomes covered by deposits, especially when the engine does not get warm during movement to working temperature.

Kalilnoye number of a candle is specified by the producer of cars. Candles differ from each other existence of one or several lateral electrodes and in diameter and in the length of a carving therefore for normal operation of the engine it is necessary to use only the candles ordered by the producer.

Service life of candles generally is defined by a material of electrodes. Electrodes from a hromonikelevy alloy have high heat conductivity and high corrosion firmness. Use of silver provides the maximum heat conductivity. Electrodes from platinum have the highest anticorrosive qualities and stability to burning out. Service life of candles depends on a used material of electrodes and a design of spark plugs and makes from 20 000 to 100 000 km of run.

Two constructive types of consolidations between a spark plug and a head of the block of cylinders are used.

In the presence of a flat surface of consolidation on a candle the fixed external sealing ring is established. If the candle has consolidation of a conic form, additional sealing rings are not required. Due to the reduction of dimensions of the engine use spark plugs with flat consolidation and with the reduced turnkey size or candles with conic consolidation.
