Arrangement of a safety cushion of the forward passenger

The system of forward inflatable pillows together with three-dot seat belts provides additional protection of the head and the top part of a body of the driver and the passenger on a forward seat in case of serious face-to-face collisions.

Except performance of the main protective function, seat belts also provide such position of bodies of the driver and the forward passenger at which inflatable pillows can provide the greatest protection at face-to-face blows.

The system of forward inflatable safety cushions does not work at lateral blows, blows in a back part of the car, capsizing, light face-to-face blows.

The system of inflatable safety cushions at all is not replacement to seat belts, and represents an essential component of the general concept of passive safety of the car. Please, remember that the greatest efficiency of action of inflatable safety cushions is reached only at joint action with the put-on seat belts.

Therefore it is necessary to use always seat belts not only because of need to observe legislative instructions, but also for reasons of ensuring own safety.

The system of inflatable safety cushions consists of the following main knots and details:

– electronic control unit system and control of functional readiness of system (control unit);
– two inflatable safety cushions (air bags with a gas generator) for the driver (in a steering wheel) and the forward passenger (in the forward panel);
– a control lamp on the dashboard.

Functional readiness of system of inflatable pillows is supervised by the electronic device.

After each inclusion of ignition the control lamp of system of inflatable safety cushions lights up for some seconds (self-examination).

The following testifies to violation of functional readiness of system:

– at ignition inclusion the control lamp does not light up;
– in some seconds after ignition inclusion the control lamp does not die away;
– after ignition inclusion the control lamp dies away and then again starts to be shone;
– during movement the control lamp is shone or flickers.
