12.8. Replacement of back brake shoes on drum-type brakes

12.8.1. Removal

GENERAL INFORMATION

Brake mechanism of a back wheel of drum-type type

1–ABS sensor;
2–the screw with an internal shestigrannik, 8 Nanometers;
3–nave pin;
4–bolt, 60 Nanometers;
5–the screw with crosswise the shlitsy;
6–brake drum;
7–protective cap. At removal of a brake drum removal of a protective cap is not required;
8–самоконтрящаяся dvenadtsatigranny nut, 175 Nanometers. At installation it is necessary to use a new nut;
9–a nave of a back wheel with the bearing;

Back brake shoes of a drum-type brake of the front-wheel car

1–plate of a spring. For removal of a spring it is necessary to press a plate and to turn
it on 90 °;

The back drum-type brake has the device of automatic adjustment of a gap of brake shoes. Thus the razzhimny level automatically changes the length and by that provides a constant gap between a brake drum and brake shoes. For this purpose between a forward block and a razzhimny level the wedge with a spring, being continuation of a razzhimny level takes place. After single pressing a pedal of a brake the demanded gap is established. If because of wear the course of a block increases, the wedge under the influence of a razzhimny level and a spring falls down. Thus, the length of a razzhimny level changes and the gap of brake shoes is automatically supported.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

Prevention

Surely make replacement of all blocks on one axis even if the limit of wear were reached only by one block.


1. The thickness of back overlays of brake shoes of a drum-type brake can be checked without removal of brake drums. Remove a rubber cap which is established over an entrance of a cable of the hand brake on a brake board.
2. Highlighting a portable lamp, check thickness of overlays of brake shoes.
3. Lift a back part of the car and fix on supports.
4. Remove back wheels and release the hand brake.
5. Unscrew the screw of fastening of a brake drum.
6. Turn a brake drum so that one of openings for a bolt of fastening of a wheel settled down at an angle 45 ° from the vertical plane, in the direction to a forward part of the car.
7. Release brake shoes for what insert a screw-driver through an opening and move up a wedge.
8. Remove a brake drum. If necessary use a universal stripper.

Prevention

At the removed brake drum not to press a brake pedal as pistons can leave the working brake cylinder.


9. Flat-nose pliers press cups of springs, turn them on 90 ° and remove together with springs. At turn of Czeches from a reverse side of a brake board hold a pin on a place.
10. Similarly remove a cup and a spring from the second brake shoe.
11. Using a screw-driver, remove a brake shoe from the bottom support.
12. Remove the bottom returnable spring.
13. Disconnect from the lever of a brake shoe a cable of the hand brake.
14. Remove brake shoes and fix them in a vice. Remove the top returnable spring and a spring of a tension of a wedge.
15. Disconnect a clamping spring of a razzhimny level and remove a razzhimny level together with a wedge (the arrow specified a detachment place).
