2.1.6. Compression check in engine cylinders

GENERAL INFORMATION

Check of a condition of the engine can be made by measurement of pressure of compression in engine cylinders. If this check to make regularly, it is possible to learn in advance the beginning of wear of the engine, without waiting the moment when wear of the engine will be shown in low overall performance of the engine.

At compression check the temperature of the engine should be +30 °C. Thus the accumulator should be completely charged.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Unscrew all spark plugs.
Engines 1,4-I
2. Disconnect the electric socket from the ignition coil.
Engines 1,6-I
3. Disconnect electric sockets from fuel nozzles
Engines 1,6-I/2,3-I
4. Disconnect the electric socket from the control unit ignition. The control unit ignition is in an electric chain between a control unit and the ignition coil.
Engines 2,3-I
5. Remove the air branch pipe located between the air filter and a zabornik of air for what weaken collars and disconnect the electric socket from a measuring instrument of a consumption of air. Remove an air branch pipe together with the valve of ventilation of a case of the engine.
6. Include neutral transfer and tighten the hand brake.
7. In an opening of a candle of the first cylinder establish компрессометр or a tester of pressure of compression.
8. The assistant should press an accelerator pedal against the stop and turn the engine a starter. After a provorachivaniye of a cranked shaft or two turns pressure of compression should increase by one to a maximum, and then be stabilized. Make record of the maximum received result.
9. Similarly check a compression in other cylinders.
10. Pressure of compression in all cylinders of petrol engines should not differ more than on 3,0 bar. Pay attention that the size of compression should increase quickly on the serviceable engine. Low pressure of compression on the first turn of the cranked shaft, accompanied by gradual increase in pressure on the subsequent turns of a cranked shaft, indicates wear of piston rings.
11. The low size of pressure on the first turn of a cranked shaft which slightly increases further, indicates a thinness of a prileganiye of the valves, the punched laying of a head of the block of cylinders or crack existence in a head of the block of cylinders. Wear of the ends of cores of valves can result in low pressure of compression also.
12. If pressure in one cylinder lowered, carry out the following tests. Fill in through a candle opening in the cylinder of a little engine oil and check pressure of compression.
13. If filling oil in the cylinder increases pressure of compression, it specifies that the cylinder or piston rings is worn-out.
14. Low pressure in two next cylinders indicates a laying burn-out between cylinders.
15. If pressure in one cylinder is less for 20 %, than in the others, and the engine works unstably idling, it indicates a worn-out cam of a camshaft.
16. If pressure of compression is too high, it specifies that the chamber of combustion is covered with a thick layer of a deposit.
17. After this check screw in spark plugs.
18. Connect the electric socket to the control unit the coil of ignition and the ignition coil.
Engines 1,6-I
19. Connect electric sockets to fuel nozzles.
Engines 2,3-I
20. Establish into place an air branch pipe and fix it collars.
21. Connect the electric socket to a measuring instrument of a stream of air.

22. After a detachment of electric sockets of system of ignition and fuel injection in an electronic control control unit the engine the message on malfunction registers.
